Finding budget-friendly options starts by exploring your own area. When searching for options available online, it’s best to ask family and friends about their favorite things to do together. One of my favorite places to stay when traveling to Orlando is the Balmoral Resort.
Here are some of our favorite activities to do as a family in our own yard. Consider planning out a scavenger hunt inside the home that will keep you and your loved ones busy and entertained for more than an hour. I’m tired of seeing moms treated like they need to be a martyr especially during the holidays. Laying on the beach as the sun shimmers down and you feel the pristine warmth on your skin while hearing the splashing water in the background is so peaceful. Head to your nearest lake or beach and make sure to pack sunscreen and towels. Staying home over spring break can often feel discouraging because perhaps many of your peers are traveling.
Spring Break Activities at Home
We’ve done all of these at one time or another. We do the outdoor movie night when the weather is nice and it’s always a blast. Spring break signals a change in seasons, and it’s a perfect time to start thinking about your outdoor living space.
Chilly temperatures are perfect for gathering around a warm fire. Get out your roasting sticks to roast hot dogs or s’mores for a little preview of summer. It’s okay to watch too many movies or have too much screen time during Spring break – especially if its raining. No matter what it is….it’s okay if you don’t enjoy it (fake it!), it’s okay if you’re terrible at it. But whatever it is, have a good attitude about it and don’t make fun of what they enjoy.
Create a Slip and Slide
If it’s still chilly, grab a sleeping bag or blankets to bundle under and get to making some yummy treats. Adding some campfire songs makes this plan even better. Gather some friends or family together and head to a local park or viewpoint. Then, set up a board with all your favorite cheeses, meats, and fruits. Obstacle courses are a great idea for keeping active no matter the weather.
These spring break activities will be loads of fun for everyone involved. I remember when I was in college and it was the week before Spring Break, I would always get so incredibly excited as the end of the week came near. I would get excited because I generally had a Spring Break vacation planned starting at the very beginning and it would go until the very end. My friends and family like to explore and do outdoor activities.

On the lawn or patio, set up some lounge chairs in the afternoon and enjoy a refreshing drink. But if you are in a cooler climate, there’s still water fun to be had. A swim spa by Master Spas is a year-round pool alternative that can serve as a family fun center. Weather permitting, play water games such as a sponge dodgeball, water limbo, or a balloon slip and slide. All-inclusive resorts in tropical locales are known for indulgent buffets. Among the pastries and cocktails, guests will find platters of fresh fruit and vegetables.
You may want to tape it or tie it in place to keep it from moving after you put it outside. Each person will receive a sheet of paper telling them what they need to look for and how long they have to find everything on the list. It will turn into a friendly and fun competition between family members. The person who completes the scavenger hunt can win a prize.
These are fun for everyone and worth staying up late to watch. Grab a couple of snacks from your favorite grocery store and dust off those board games. I recently introduced Chess and Checkers to the kids and they are loving it.
Who says you need to go to a resort to have some water fun with the family? You can create a slip and slide and set it up in your backyard. If you would love to create the slip and slide, you will need a large plastic tarp to lay out on the grass.
You can also filter your search based on things happening that week or the following. Budgeting yourself is important with multiple kids. Cheap spring break options are available, however, you need to do research in your area to know what’s going on during that week.
And there’s a plethora of great resources online now with free educational activities, videos, printables etc. A lot of times it’s challenging to get that “perfect balance” between user friendliness and appearance. I don’t care who you are, everyone benefits from a little pampering!

I would do one each day or maybe let the kids vote on it to make it more fun. My daughter is older now and unfortunately out of that stage so she just wants to go to the mall- maybe she would just be up to doing a spa day. These are great ideas to do now that we ought to stay at home. I love the mani/pedi sessions and we already do baking at home a lot. If you don’t want to get all crazy with a bunch of different components, make pizzas!
37) Experiment – Turn your kids into mad scientists with a few fun science activities. 29) See it, do it – Let your kids direct the day. 12) Yahtzee – Dust off the board games; it’s game night. 8) The main attraction – Pop some popcorn and enjoy family movie night. 7) Pillow fight – Host a family slumber party in the living room. Sunset photos on the beach can be cherished memories long after you return.
